LulzSec Hacker Arrested over Sony Hacks

Sep 23, 2011

A 23 year old university - Cody Kretsinger - student in Phoenix Arizona has been arrested just hours ago, on charges he was a pivotal component in the successful breach of Sony Pictures in June 2011.

On June 11 of this year, LulzSec members successfully breached the security of Sony and raided the database of the company. Following their success in doing this, the group then posted online the account and personal details of sum 1 million Sony customers. The compound result of this breach cost the company an estimated $183 million dollars as well as taking the Online Playstation network offline for many, many weeks.

FBI prosecutors will allege that Mr Kretsinger used SQL Injection to successfully hack the services of Sony. In order to try and cover his tracks, it will be argued that he used the proxy service offered by 'hidemyass.com' and then once all data had been posted online, erased his hard drive.

LulzSec are an independent group of hackers whom sometimes align themselves with the Hacktivist group Anonymous. They state they only hack the services and networks of large corporations whom are 'working against' ensuring the greater good for the general popluation.
